No one expects the Spanish Inquisition! Or brain cancer! This is our personal journey as a family when our 21 year old son was diagnosed with a brain mass and the roller coaster ride that followed. His life was turned upside down and his parent's worst nightmare that started on December 23, 2010.

Disneyland it ain't
We were back in the clinic today to have blood work done. A new room for us in pediatric oncology, Disney characters. Orion laughed because I was outraged at the terrible disneyification of Pooh and just as outraged that MGH probably did not get permission to use these images.
The counts came back and once again lots of items high or low but quite impressive considering what he is going through. We go back on Friday for another set. Orion asked, well what can go wrong, whats the worst that could happen? They shrugged and said well we might have to give you a transfusion but that is quick and easy. Everybody left happy and we headed out to Savenor's to select tonight's wild meat.

I agree-the Disney characters do look like knock-offs. I guess MGH is far enough away from SoCal to not be worried about discovery by the Disney attorneys. So--you are regulars now at Savenor's? Damn, it's great that you quit your job, Steve, so you could be Orion's steadfast partner through this journey. What did you eat tonight--wild boar? We had organic chicken here in Denver tonight.
ReplyDeleteWhat is Orion's blood type? I still don't know his shoe size...
Lianna had a number of white cell transfusions & at least one red cell that I recall. They were no more difficult than receiving a bag of saline--except for the one time when she had an allergic reaction & broke out in hives. But even that was very quickly repaired.
ReplyDeleteBut it's clear that there are differences in Orion's & Lianna's responses, because her go-to meal during chemo was Lipton's Noodle Soup (Extra Noodles). I didn't ever think to offer her . . . lion.
