The verdict is in

Orion's neurosurgeon stopped by with the best of all possible tumor identifications- a germinoma. Prognosis is excellent after radiation and possibly some chemo. We will hear about treatment plans tomorrow.

Sounds like the ordeal is not over yet, but this must be a huge relief.
    Continued good wishes to Orion!

  4. Great news!!!

Eleanor points out that, with a slight change, they could have made the gift shop test into an instance of the knapsack problem and had something more suitable for someone like Orion.

  6. I LOVE and always EXPECT to get the LESSER OF ALL EVILS when it comes to a diagnosis!!! YAY for Orion and you for receiving such a diagnosis! Wikipedia says: "Germinomas, like several other types of germ cell tumor, are sensitive to both chemotherapy and radiotherapy. For this reason, with treatment patients' chances of long term survival, even cure, is excellent." EXCELLENT!!! EVEN CURE!!! We have all been holding our collective breaths. CURE!!! Who would have thought? Wikipedia also cites that intracranial germinomas occur in .7/million of children!! What odds!! Buy a lotto ticket!! Celebrate this great news tonight! Does the hospital kitchen have champagne on the menu? NO? How about prosecco?! Oh! You are closer to New York state you say? OK--go with a sparkling wine of some sort. I am ECSTATIC for you!!!!!!!!!

I speak from experience! Much love to each of you, Mary Lou

Now, get Orion out of that awful hospital gown. Or else, all of you need to put on those awful gowns. The visual contrast is huge in photos. Everyone needs to wear warm-ups instead.

  9. I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am for you both, and, of course, for Orion. I know he will be able to face whatever may come his way down this recovery path! Whew..... that was a rough one. It must be nice to be able to breathe again, my friends.
